Alstom consortiums obtain contracts totaling $983 million to build two Algerian tramways

Algerian transit agency Entreprise du Métro d’Alger (EMA) recently awarded contracts totaling $983.3 million to two consortiums to provide “turnkey” tramway systems for the cities of Oran and Constantine.
EMA awarded a $561.2 million contract to a TRAMNOUR consortium, which comprises Alstom Transport and Spain’s Isolux CORSAN, to build the Oran system. Under its $234.1 million portion of the contract, Alstom will supply 30 CITADIS trams, the signal and communications system, and station equipment and substations. Isolux CORSAN will be responsible for providing civil engineering, track, engineering and overhead catenary.
The agency also awarded a $485.3 million contract to a consortium between Alstom and Italy’s Pizzarotti to build a tramway in Constantine. Under its $281.6 million portion of the contract, Alstom will provide 27 trams, as well as the track, electrical power supply and signal and communications systems, and station equipment. Pizzarotti will perform civil engineering work.
