Alstom expands Montreal division to provide transit-rail security systems

Alstom recently expanded its Montreal division and renamed it the Passenger Information and Security division. In addition to providing passenger information and video surveillance systems, the unit will develop products and systems designed to help transit-rail agencies improve security.

The division recently opened new facilities in Montreal’s St. Laurent district. Alstom plans to increase the division’s research and development budget, and add about 200 employees during the next two years.

The division will be charged with developing more advanced and integrated security systems, such as “intelligent” video cameras and incident detection systems designed to automatically detect if an object is left on a train or a person remains stationary for a long period of time.

Formed in 1990 as Télécité, the division was acquired by Alstom in 1999.
