Next month, Amtrak will begin providing more passenger-friendly service on the Empire Builder, which travels between Chicago, Seattle and Portland, Ore. The long-distance train will feature refurbished passenger cars, new services and improved amenities.
The changes are part of Amtrak’s plan to improve passengers’ on-board experience on long-distance trains and the trains’ financial performance.
Amtrak will offer first-class passengers on-board wine and cheese tastings, new menu items and bedtime treats. Coach passengers will receive at-seat food and beverage service, and have access to a snack bar.
The refurbished cars will feature new public shower rooms, redesigned toilet and shower units in sleeper cars, and an update lounge car, which includes small seat groups and drink tables at one end and dining tables on the other.
In addition, Amtrak will expand its Trails and Rails program, providing lectures about the culture, geography and history of the Great Plains, Mississippi River, and North Dakota and Montana.
