Amtrak recently announced that board director Enrique Sosa has resigned.

He was appointed to the board by President Bush in August 2004 and reappointed in January 2006. During his tenure, Sosa helped develop Amtrak’s Strategic Reform Initiatives, which currently are being implemented by the national intercity passenger railroad.

“It has been a very rewarding experience, for I truly believe that real and very significant progress has been made towards seeing an Amtrak that is fulfilling its role,” Sosa said in his resignation letter.

Prior to joining the board, Sosa served as president of BP Amoco Chemicals. He previously served as executive vice president of Amoco, heading the company’s chemicals sector.
