Wabtec Corp. subsidiary MotivePower Inc. recently obtained a $12 million contract from Amtrak to provide 10 MP15B switcher locomotives.
Scheduled to be delivered later this year, the 1,500-horsepower work trains will help Amtrak improve efficiencies and reduce operating costs, according to a prepared statement. The units will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s "Tier 1" emissions standards and feature specially designed low-clearance cabs to accommodate New York City-area tunnels.
Young Touchstone, another Wabtec subsidiary, will supply the locomotives’ cooling systems.
