In July, Amtrak recorded its highest-ever monthly ridership at 2,223,358 passengers.

Fifteen routes posted double-digit ridership increases compared with July 2002. Some long-distance routes recorded significant increases, too, including the Texas Eagle (49.8 percent), Sunset Limited (39.2 percent), Silver Meteor (30.5 percent), City of New Orleans (21 percent), Auto Train (19.3 percent) and Empire Builder (13.8 percent).

Corridor trains Pacific Surfliner and Hiawatha increased monthly ridership 32.4 percent and 13.4 percent, respectively, compared with July 2002.

Amtrak previously posted record ridership in April, May and June.

Meanwhile, Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian ridership has increased 98 percent since Feb. 10. The national passenger railroad improved the route and schedule, enabling trains to operate between New York and Pittsburgh instead of Philadelphia and Chicago.
