On Oct. 16, Amtrak announced fare cuts — some more than 50 percent — on the 104-mile Keystone line, which runs between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa.
One-way fares dropped from $8 to $3, off-peak fares from $21 to $19 and peak fares from $28 to $24. Between Lancaster and Harrisburg, off-peak fares have been reduced from $11 to $6; between Lancaster and Philadelphia, off-peak fares have been cut from $16 to $13 and peak fares, from $21 to $16.
"By making fares more attractive, we believe that more travelers will chose the train," said Barbara Richardson, Amtrak vice president of marketing and sales, in a prepared statement.
With annual fiscal-year 2003 ridership of 886,003, the Keystone line is Amtrak's fifth-busiest corridor, trailing the Northeast, Pacific and Capitol corridors.
