On Feb. 5, Amtrak and AT&T Wireless announced an agreement to install high-speed wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) in six of the national passenger railroad’s busiest stations.

More than one million daily passengers will be able to access the Internet via a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or handheld computer at Amtrak’s Boston Route 128, Providence, New York Penn, Philadelphia 30th Street, Wilmington and Baltimore Penn stations.

AT&T will design, install, manage, operate and maintain the systems.

Wi-Fi service is designed to serve small areas in fixed locations, such as airports, office buildings, bookstores and hotel lobbies.
