Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) has developed software designed to simulate the operations of passenger-rail systems to enable transit agencies to study the effects of design and operational changes.
Using Rapid Transit Simulator (RTSim), agency officials can analyze any effects caused by changing platform length, track alignment and average vehicle speed. RTSim also enables researchers to simulate passenger flow to understand how a system would respond to different demands.
Australian light-rail agency Bishop Austrans Ltd. currently is using RTSim to test different system configurations that would help the agency more efficiently manage its network and minimize infrastructure costs.
