ODVA recently formed a special interest group charged with helping “evolve” ODVA technologies for the rail industry. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., ODVA is a global association of leading automation companies that support network technologies based on a common industrial protocol.
The group would develop technological standards to “provide a comprehensive solution for rail transport, encompassing onboard train controls, monitoring, signaling and demand-response,” ODVA officials said in a prepared statement.
Information and communication technologies should be “open, interoperable and, whenever possible, embrace the use of commercial off-the-shelf and standard, unmodified Internet and Ethernet” solutions, they said.
The special interest group will enable leaders in the rail and information technology industries to collaborate on “best-in-class, open and interoperable communication standards for the next generation in railway transport,” ODVA officials said.
