BART expands rush hour capacity

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) recently added one or two cars to morning and evening rush hour trains to accommodate more passengers. During rush hour, train lengths now vary from six to 10 cars.

The agency’s ridership has increased at a higher rate than anticipated because of rising gas prices, highway congestion and Bay Bridge construction. Last month, ridership rose almost 4 percent compared with September 2004.
