Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officers soon will gain faster access to information about emergency situations. The agency plans to install MapInfo Corp.’s location-based technology on wireless computers inside patrol cars and BlackBerry® handheld devices.
The technology will be integrated with BART’s dispatch system to help officers pinpoint the location of an emergency and determine the emergency’s impact on a surrounding neighborhood. MapInfo provides digital photos showing emergency exits for underground tracks or stations, and locations and telephone numbers for nearby jails, hospitals and other institutions.
