Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
During Christmas week, Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) San Francisco International Airport (SFO) station served a record-high number of passengers.
Between Dec. 20 and Dec. 26, nearly 49,000 people rode BART to the airport — a 19 percent increase compared with the same 2003 period. Agency officials had predicted a 14 percent increase.
Officials attribute the record to community educational outreach efforts designed to show how much time and money a person can save by taking BART to SFO instead of driving.
