Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The San Francisco Bay area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) recently allocated $3.4 million to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to complete final design for a set of crossover tracks near the Pleasant Hill station.
The crossover tracks will enable trains to turn around near the station. BART plans to provide more frequent service between Pleasant Hill and San Francisco during peak periods.
The project is being funded through Measure 2, legislation approved by bay-area voters in 2004 that authorized a $1 hike in tolls on the region’s seven state-owned toll bridges to finance a regional traffic relief plan. MTC — a nine-county transportation and financing agency — previously allocated $1.2 million to BART to complete the project’s environmental and conceptual design.
