BMWE launches home page link for members to track IBB merger proposal

Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Aug. 16 added a "Merger Corner" feature to its Web site (www.bmwe.org) to enable members to obtain current information on BMWE's proposed merger with International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers (IBB).

Merger Corner includes a question and answer feature, the proposed merger agreement, amendments, letters between the organizations and the latest merger news.

BMWE plans in the near future to draft a merger proposal and present it to members for a vote.

A similar merger proposal was shot down in September 2001 by 55 percent of BMWE members. However, union officials believe the new IBB merger agreement includes substantial changes and increased member benefits compared with the failed proposal.
