BNSF, CSXI partner to expand Ice Cold Express eastward
advertisement
Burlington Northern Santa Fe and CSX Intermodal recently partnered to expand BNSF's Ice Cold Express service to the East Coast.
The railroads June 14 began twice-weekly service between San Bernardino, Calif., and Little Ferry, N.J. — designed to access the New York and New Jersey markets.
Ice Cold Express, which BNSF introduced in 1999 as a weekly service for temperature-controlled products moving between Southern California and Chicago, now offers shippers a fourth evening delivery, designed to be 24 hours faster that current railroad transit times. BNSF runs the service using 53-foot ReeferRailer™ trailers and bogies in unit trains.
"Our partnership with CSXI provides BNSF's customers with competitive, seamless service between the West and East Coasts for temperature-controlled products," said Steve Branscum, BNSF group vice president, consumer products marketing, in a prepared statement.
BNSF in October expanded Ice Cold Express into Montreal and Toronto.
