The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation recently donated $750,000 to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) to help the Overland Park, Kan., university build the $15 million Regnier Center for Technology and Business.

"We are honored to receive one of the largest gifts the [foundation] has ever given," said JCCC President Charles Carlsen in a prepared statement.

Scheduled to open in 2007, the 160,000-square-foot Regnier Center will include classrooms and labs for information and electronics technology, interactive media, computer science and data processing courses.

In 1986, the BNSF Foundation helped JCCC fund the National Academy of Railroad Sciences, the nation's largest railroad training facility. Initially designed as a BNSF-only training center, the facility now is used by many railroads.

In 1988, the foundation also helped fund the college's industrial technical center, which houses BNSF's national training programs.
