Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The City of Bismarck, N.D., has secured intermodal service for a 243-acre industrial park the municipality is building.
Last week, the city contracted BNSF Railway Co. and Vision Intermodal L.L.C. as intermodal service providers for the Northern Plains Commerce Centre (NPCC). Vision Intermodal will partner with NPCC operator Mallory Alexander International Logistics to provide intermodal rail service and BNSF will designate Mallory Alexander as a member of the Class I’s “Premier Transload” network.
BNSF’s nearest premier transload centers — which offer loading and transportation services — are located in western Montana, eastern Minnesota and Nebraska.
NPCC currently receives box-car freight. The city will extend track 300 feet to enable NPCC tenant Bobcat Co. to begin receiving containers. The track extension is a temporary measure until the city completes the center’s new rail yard in late fall.
NPCC will handle lumber, box and flat cars, and intermodal containers; eventually, the facility could receive bulk liquids and agricultural products, the city said.
