More than halfway through August, BNSF Railway Co.’s Powder River Basin (PRB) coal train loadings remained ahead of last year’s pace.

Through Aug. 19, the Class I’s daily loadings at Wyoming and Montana mines averaged 50.5 trains compared with 49.0 trains during the same 2006 period. However, mine production issues resulted in a loss of 5.4 train loadings per day, BNSF said.

Year to date through Aug. 19, BNSF loaded a daily average of 49.3 trains in the PRB compared with a 49.1-train average a year ago.

Systemwide through Aug. 19, BNSF loaded a total of 181.2 million tons of coal, up about 1 percent compared with the same 2006 period.
