Last month, BNSF Railway Co. loaded 24.3 million tons of coal, a 10.8 percent increase compared with the same 2005 period and an August coal tonnage record.

The loadings also marked the railroad’s third-highest monthly volume. BNSF has set all three high-water marks in 2006.

Through 2006’s first eight months, BNSF loaded 190.8 million tons of coal, a 10.8 percent increase compared with the same 2005 period’s tonnage. In the Powder River Basin, the Class I averaged 49.1 train loadings per day, up 10.3 percent compared with average daily loadings during 2005’s first eight months.
