Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Burlington Northern Santa Fe is simplifying its rate structure on certain wheat moves to accommodate shippers who move small quantities of the grain. Beginning Dec. 1, the rate spread between all single- and 26-car, and 26- and 52-car shipments will be $75 per car.
"Not only is the rate structure simplified, but [the changes] also result in a rate reduction for our single and 26-car shippers," said Kevin Kaufman, BNSF group vice president, agricultural products, in a prepared statement.
Because of the simplification, rates to move wheat in single cars from North Dakota and Montana to the Pacific Northwest, and from North Dakota to Minneapolis will be reduced $277 and $98 per car, respectively. Rates to move wheat in 26-car units from North Dakota and Montana to the Pacific Northwest will be reduced $139 per car.
