Several Burlington Northern Santa Fe employees recently received military awards recognizing their equipment-moving efforts during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In January and February, BNSF moved 2,170 rail cars and 6,000 pieces of equipment from Fort Hood, Texas, to the Port of Beaumont and Corpus Christi.

Manager of Government Sales John Pinard, Trainmaster Rance Randle, Director of Unit Train Operations John Keigley, and Senior Special Agents Robert Pounds and Bryan Bass received citations from the U.S. Army-III Corps Commanding General for their contributions to Operation Iron Horse.

To meet military requirements, outgoing equipment had to be ready for war upon arrival in Turkey, requiring sensitive items to be packed in the equipment, according to a prepared statement.

Concerned about possible pilferage, the Army requested that military representatives accompany the train. BNSF employees coordinated moves with government security forces.
