BNSF goes down swinging on UPS failure-free service streak

The streak is over for Burlington Northern Santa Fe. On Jan. 21, the railroad broke its second-longest failure-free service string for United Parcel Service since the 1996 BN/SF merger.

The streak ended at 88 days and 88,026 carloads after a flat car carrying five UPS loads broke down. BNSF employees tried to repair the car in freezing temperatures and expedite it to destination, but UPS couldn't process two of the loads on schedule, according to a prepared statement.

BNSF's longest UPS failure-free streak ended Feb. 24, 2000, after 96 days and 103,502 carloads.
