Today, Burlington Northern Santa Fe named 56 recipients of its 7th annual Product Stewardship Award, which recognizes chemical shippers who safely handle hazardous materials and support the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® Initiative.

To win the award, shippers must have transported a minimum of 500 loaded tank cars without encountering a non-accidental haz-mat release during 2003.

Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc., BP Chemicals, Eka Chemicals Inc., Husky Energy, Nexen Chemicals and Olin Corp.'s Chlor Alkali Division received the honor for the seventh-straight year.

"These awards reflect our customers' continued focus and commitment to the safe transportation of hazardous materials," said BNSF Vice President of Industrial Product Sales George Duggan in a prepared statement.
