BNSF honors chemical shippers' safety
advertisement
Burlington Northern Santa Fe April 11 presented its 5th annual Product Stewardship Awards to 45 chemical shippers.
The award recognizes shippers that successfully transported a minimum of 500 hazardous-material-carrying tank cars during calendar year 2001 and
recorded no non-accident releases (NARs) during an entire transportation cycle.
Although the Class I's total haz-mat shipments last year remained basically the same as in 2000, NARs decreased 27 percent, mostly because shippers are better-securing tank cars prior to release, BNSF said.
Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc., Eka Chemicals Inc., Husky Energy, Kerr-McGee Chemical LLC, Nexen Chemicals, Nova Chemicals Corp., Olin Corp. and PPG Industries Inc. have won the award all five years.
