BNSF introduces intermodal rates on the Internet

Burlington Northern Santa Fe July 9 introduced a new Web site, http://bnsf.railprices.com, designed to host the Class I's ramp-to-ramp rates for more than 200 intermodal lanes — the only domestic and full truckload rates BNSF offers in the lanes.
The railroad plans to eliminate minimum revenue commitments associated with the rates, enabling shippers that can organize drayage and agree to service-user terms to conduct business directly with BNSF.
"By making our intermodal prices public, we hope to demonstrate to the greater shipping community that intermodal transportation is truly a cost-effective alternative to over-the-road transportation," said Ed Zajac, BNSF assistant vice president, IMC and truckload marketing, in a prepared statement.
