BNSF Railway Co. recently joined the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC), a non-profit transportation organization that already counts Canadian National Railway Co., Canadian Pacific Railway and Southern Railway of British Columbia Ltd. as members.

BSNF plans to spend $2.4 billion this year to maintain and expand its network, facilities and equipment, and acquire 310 locomotives.

“BNSF is a key component of B.C.’s lower mainland rail system, and an important link between western Canada and markets in the U.S. and Mexico,” said WESTAC President Ruth Sol in a prepared statement. “BNSF’s lines allow Canadian shippers to access their markets to the south.”

Founded in 1973, WESTAC aims to promote transportation as a critical sector supporting western Canada’s trade, jobs and economy.
