BNSF launches customized, customer-friendly online tracking tool

Echoing the e-world's easier-to-do-business mantra, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Aug. 22 launched Customer Logistics System (CLS), a Web-based real-time tracking and tracing tool.

CLS is designed to enable customers to pinpoint shipment data across BNSF's network without having to phone the Class I's customer service department for help. The Internet tool also enables customers to build customized reports containing their specific tracing information, then store report templates on a secured CLS application — meaning customers can manage, modify or delete reports any time.

"With CLS, customers have the power to independently gather information about their shipments without our assistance," said Kathleen Regan, BNSF vice president of eBusiness development, in a prepared statement, adding that CLS enables BNSF's customer solutions team to spend more time monitoring shipments to meet demands.

Customers can access CLS on the MyBNSF page of the railroad's Web site (www.bnsf.com). Users register for the tool, then a BNSF representative follows up with the customer to schedule a CLS tutorial and training session.
