BNSF offers online interline rates for traffic terminating on NS, CPR

The Class Is continue to provide shippers more instantaneous interline rates on the Internet as part of the “A+B Pricing” initiative launched in 2003. Last month, CSX Transportation began offering online interline prices for traffic terminating on Norfolk Southern and Canadian Pacific railways at www.csx.com. Now, BNSF Railway Co. is providing interline rates for traffic terminating on the same two Class Is at www.bnsf.com.

Using an online pricing tool, shippers can obtain prices for most general merchandise commodities from all BNSF origins to any destination served by NS and CPR, as well as CSXT and some of its affiliated short lines, and Canadian National Railway Co.

“Previously, to get an interline price, carload customers had to call the originating railroad, and the originating railroad would have to call the destination railroad and then get back to the customer,” said Denis Smith, BNSF vice president of industrial products marketing, in a prepared statement. “Now, customers can visit www.bnsf.com and instantaneously get a price from point A to point B on any participating destination railroad.”
