BNSF opens suggestion box to welcome workers' security-enhancing ideas

Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials are interested in employees' take on improving security. The Class I is launching a suggestions program designed to encourage workers to share security-enhancing ideas.

The "suggestion box" is an outgrowth of BNSF's year-old "On Guard" program, which is designed to encourage employees to report trespassers, suspicious behavior or activities, and security violations.

"[Employees] are the best defense against security breaches," said Carl Ice, BNSF executive vice president and chief operations officer, in a prepared statement. "They are the ones who see things first-hand and have a lot of valuable insight on better or more efficient ways to build upon our security measures."

Workers are encouraged to call a 1-800 number or send an email to the BNSF Resource Protection Solutions Team to offer tips and suggestions. The railroad plans to distribute posters promoting the program throughout its system.
