Schneider National Inc. recently agreed to use Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Operation Lifesaver grade-crossing safety video as part of its driver-training program.

The trucking firm plans to partner with the railroad to promote and improve crossing safety.

"We believe in the importance of working together to ensure safety, whether it’s the safety of our truck drivers, BNSF’s train crews or the driving public," said Joe Kizaur, Schneider National's loss prevention manager, in a prepared statement.

Schneider National — BNSF's largest intermodal customer — employs 14,000 drivers and independent contractors, and operates more than 35 North American terminals. The company's drivers log more than 5 million loaded miles per day.

"Your License or Your Life," the railroad's video designed for professional truck drivers, deals with behaviors and the importance of obeying crossing safety laws.

Meanwhile, BNSF is pursuing safety partnerships with other trucking customers; Wal-Mart Corp., which employs 6,500 truck drivers, also recently agreed to use the railroad's video in its driver training program, said Tom Micek, BNSF regional manager, grade crossing safety.
