Yesterday, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. announced it will conduct a stockholders vote on Feb. 11 regarding the adoption of a merger agreement with Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Stockholders of record at the close of business on Dec. 18 will be entitled to vote at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Union Pacific Railroad announced it recently delivered the 25,000th “Pipeline Express” rail car since the service targeting oil and natural gas producers was launched in 2005. Pipeline Express provides steel pipeline product shippers truck-competitive transit times and dedicated equipment, including a fleet of 89-foot flat cars designed to haul 100 tons of pipe. UP’s Pipeline Express business has grown from 1,700 cars in its first year to 8,000 cars in 2008, according to the Class I.

Finally, Canadian Pacific announced the Canadian Pacific Police Association ratified a three-year agreement. The contract provides a 6 percent wage increase for the period spanning 2010 to 2012.
