BNSF soon to label intermodal service three ways

Burlington Northern Santa Fe plans June 30 to implement three new intermodal-service designations:

• Expedited (E) for extremely time-sensitive shipments, including seven-day-per-week availability at destinations;

• Premium (P) for truck-competitive service that's comparable to 500-mile-per-day or single-driver truck service, which BNSF would offer both with or without weekend availability to provide customers additional flexibility; and

• Value (V) for BNSF's new service offering in select markets designed for freight with flexible delivery requirements.

"We’re excited about these new service-level designations because they better reflect the differentiated service that BNSF has always offered the intermodal shipper and are geared to evolving marketplace needs," said John Lucas, BNSF assistant vice president, direct marketing, and team leader for the service-level designations, in a statement prepared June 26.
