Burlington Northern Santa Fe recently became the second Class I to join U.S. Customs Service's Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.

C-TPAT encourages businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate security guidelines to supply-chain business partners.

The program requires participants to analyze all areas of security, such as documents, information systems, employee and contractor identification, equipment and facilities.

Last week, CSX Transportation and CSX Intermodal submitted applications to U.S. Customs Service to join C-TPAT, which seeks voluntary involvement from various international transportation supply-chain companies, including importers, licensed brokers, airlines, ocean carriers, railroads, air-freight consolidators and port operators.
