BNSF to sell 119-mile rail line to Oklahoma Class III
advertisement
Stillwater Central Railroad Inc. earlier this month filed an acquisition exemption with Surface Transportation Board to acquire from Burlington Northern Santa Fe a 119.7-mile line between Wheatland and Long, Okla.
Officials of the 117-mile short line, which is owned and operated by short-line holding company Watco Cos. Inc., expected to consummate the transaction late last month, pending STB approval. Stillwater Central operates track between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla., and Wichita, Kan.
BNSF late last year announced plans to rationalize up to 1,000 track miles during 2002, possibly selling some track on the short-line market.
