BNSF unifies two groups into one food, consumer goods unit

Burlington Northern Santa Fe recently combined its perishables and drybox units within the consumer products group and renamed the combined unit "food and consumer goods." The Class I also reorganized sales and marketing personnel responsible for the new unit into regional teams.

Led by Director of Regional Sales Mike Williamson, the regional sales team will be aligned by commodity and geography.

"This change should result in improved efficiency in fleet utilization for both mechanical reefers and dry box cars, allowing BNSF to better coordinate customer equipment needs," said Cal Reynolds, assistant vice president, food and consumer goods, in a prepared statement.

Led by General Director Mike Wood, the marketing team is charged with developing customer-targeted strategies and market-based pricing to enable the railroad to reinvest in equipment and infrastructure to meet demand.

"We believe this new alignment will result in greater productivity and efficiency, and … allow us to spend more face-to-face time out in the field with customers," said Reynolds.
