BNSF Railway Co.’s Argentine hump yard in Kansas City, Kan., has reached a milestone. On July 4, the 780-acre facility celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Featuring 60 bowl tracks, two hump leads and computer-operated retarding systems, the yard is used to disassemble manifest trains and rearrange cars. Workers average one hour to break down trains.

BNSF’s transportation service plan calls for the yard to handle 1,800 manifest cars per day. But Argentine regularly exceeds 2,000 cars, according to the railroad.
