In February, the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) reached 104.8, a 2 percent increase from January’s level — only the second month-over-month gain since August 2008 and largest one-month rise since January 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

However, the index fell 6 percent compared with February 2008’s Freight TSI and dropped to its lowest February level since 2003.

February’s Passenger TSI reached 112.8, up 0.1 percent from January’s level, but down 3.2 percent from February 2008’s level. February’s combined Freight and Passenger TSI reached 106.4, a 1.5 percent increase from January’s level and 5.3 percent decrease from February 2008’s level.
