Bombardier Transportation recently obtained an $89 million contract to design and build a CX-100 automated people-mover system for the Beijing Capital Airport.
The company will provide 11 vehicles, and electrical and mechanical services for the 1.2-mile system, which will operate on dual guideway between two stations and serve a new airport terminal. Designed to carry more than 4,000 passengers per hour in each direction, the vehicles can operate as single cars or in up to four-car consists. The contract includes an option for Bombardier to operate and maintain the system for two years.
Bombardier’s Pittsburgh facility will be responsible for the project’s management, engineering, integration and testing, as well as supplying the vehicles and Bombardier’s CITYFLO 550 automated train control technology.
The project is scheduled to be complete in December 2007, in time for Beijing to host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
