Australia’s Queensland Government recently awarded a $138 million contract to a Bombardier Transportation/EDI Rail joint venture to build 20 three-car electric commuter trains. The government now has ordered about 600 passenger cars from the joint venture.
Under its $63 million portion of the contract, Bombardier will provide vehicle integration services, design the car structure and bogies, and supply the propulsion, electrical and communication systems.
The cars are scheduled to be delivered between 2009 and 2010.
