In late 2004, a consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation and Yapi Merkezi completed an Eskisehi, Turkey, light-rail system, which is averaging about 70,000 passengers daily.

The consortium was responsible for designing, constructing and testing the nine-mile system. Bombardier also provided 18 FLEXITY Outlook trams, and was responsible for project management, systems engineering and integration, signaling, power supply, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, overhead lines, radio systems, depot maintenance equipment, and training. The company will provide operations and maintenance support during the system’s first year of operation.

Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc. appointed two new members to its board: Heinrich Weiss, who serves as chairman and chief executive officer of international plant construction and mechanical engineering firm SMS GmbH; and Michael Durham, who serves as chairman of Asbury Automotive Group.
