Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Portugal’s Metro do Porto recently awarded a $148 million contract to a Bombardier Transportation/Vossloh-Kiepe consortium to supply 30 bi-directional FLEXITY Swift low-floor light-rail vehicles. Metro do Porto will operate the vehicles on the suburban lines of the city’s light-rail system.
Reaching top speeds of 62 mph, the vehicles will feature seating for 100 passengers — 20 more than the agency’s current fleet. The cars are scheduled to be delivered between 2008 and 2009.
Bombardier also will be responsible for maintaining the fleet for five years.
