Bombardier Transportation recently obtained a $67 million contract from Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. (EMD) to assemble an initial order of 100 SD70ACe locomotives in Mexico.

Bombardier will fabricate sub-parts and assemble locomotives at its Sahagun, Mexico, plant. Locomotive deliveries will begin in mid-June and conclude by year’s end.

Since 1998, the Sahagun facility has produced more than 1,100 locomotives for EMD.

Featuring a modified EMD 710 diesel engine, advanced self-diagnostics and predictive health capabilities, the 4,300-horsepower SD70ACe locomotives meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 2 emission standards.
