Systems integrator China Railway Signaling and Communications Corp. recently awarded a $91 million contract to Bombardier Transportation to supply, install, test and commission the INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 onboard and wayside signaling equipment for the Chinese Ministry of Railways.

The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), a rail signaling standard, will manage trains traveling up to 186 mph along a 620-mile Wuhan-to-Guangzhou corridor, which is scheduled to open in January 2010. ERTMS enables trains to cross international borders without having to change locomotives or drivers.

Bombardier will provide 120 onboard systems for 60 train sets and nine Bombardier EBI Com radio block centers for the line and stations. The company also will provide signaling support on interface specifications and interoperability.
