Bombardier to supply 36 freight locomotives to European leasing firm

advertisement

Bombardier Transportation recently received a $202 million order from European locomotive lessor Angel Trains Ltd. for 26 TRAXX F140 MS multi-system and 10 TRAXX F140 DC locomotives. Angel Trains retains an option to purchase up to 100 of the freight locomotives, which will feature Bombardier’s MITRAC propulsion and control systems.

Bombardier will build the locomotives at its Kassel, Germany, plant. Delivery of the DC units will be completed between October 2006 and March 2007; multi-system units, between January 2007 and September 2007.

Angel Trains plans to lease out 10 of the TRAXX MS locomotives for freight-rail services between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, 10 for shuttle services between Germany and Poland, and six for cross-border services between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. The 10 DC locomotives will be leased out in Italy.

The F140 MS and DC locomotives will feature Bombardier's EBI Cab onboard automatic train-control system, which includes European Rail Traffic Management System technology and Specific Transmission Module components, so the units can cross borders without requiring locomotive or crew changes.
