A consortium including Bombardier Transportation recently won a $242 million contract from Palermo, Italy’s public transportation authority to supply 17 bi-directional FLEXITY Outlook trams and install a CITYFLO 150 traffic-management system for a new nine-mile light-rail system.

The FLEXITY Outlook trams will feature low-floor interiors, Bombardier’s MITRAC propulsion and control system, air conditioning and designated wheel-chair areas.

Bombardier’s share of the contract is $87 million. The company will deliver the trams in 2009 and maintain the vehicles for four years. The city plans to open the system’s first two lines in December 2009 and a third line in April 2010.
