Bombardier Transportation recently obtained a $71 million contract to supply automated people mover vehicles and train-control systems for China’s Guangzhou Metro Corp.

To serve the Zhuijian Xincheng Central District of Guangzhou City, the 2.5-mile system will be the first-ever people mover in an urban area in China. Scheduled to be complete in June 2010, the dual-lane, underground system will include nine stations, four of which will connect with the city’s metro system.

Bombardier will supply 14 CX-100 vehicles, its CITYFLO 650 automatic train-control system and 18 guideway switches. The company will work in partnership with GMC, which will supply the power and communications systems, and platform screen doors. GMC also will design and construct the stations and tunnels.
