Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
A Bombardier Transportation/Siemens consortium recently received a $557 million order from the Netherlands Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) to deliver 32 four-car and 32 six-car Sprinter electric multiple units (EMUs).
The order covers the first two (of five) options from an initial contract, which was signed in 2005.
It also includes the delivery of a set of “strategic spare parts,” according to a Bombardier prepared statement.
Bombardier's manufacturing facilities in Aachen and Hennigsdorf, Germany, will produce the four-car trains. Siemens will produce its share in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. The Sprinter vehicles will be delivered between October 2009 and November 2010.
