A Bombardier Transportation-Siemens consortium will build another 13 ET 425.2 electric multiple units (EMUs) for Germany’s Deutsche Bahn Regio AG. The railroad recently placed an $81 million order, which follows a $461 million agreement in 2001 that netted Deutsche Bahn 80 EMUs.

The four-compartment EMUs can reach a maximum speed of 87 mph and accommodate 433 passengers – 204 of them seated.

As consortium leader, Bombardier will manufacture nine trains; Siemens, four. Bombardier will construct car bodies and complete final train assembly at its Henningsdorf, Germany, site; bogies will be manufactured at Bombardier’s Siegen facility, where electrical fittings for the nine trains will be produced in Mannheim.

Intended for use in Germany’s Hanover region, the 13 units are scheduled to be delivered in mid-2008 and enter revenue service by December 2008.
