Watco Cos. Inc. recently named John Brown senior vice president of special projects. Most recently SVP and chief operating officer of the West Region, he will be responsible for helping evaluate acquisitions, and developing and implementing service and operating plans.

Brown also will “work closely with various members of the executive team on special projects and technology development to discover and evaluate new and better ways to use technology to achieve higher levels of performance and efficiencies,” said Watco President and COO Terry Towner in a prepared statement.

A Watco employee for more than 17 years, Brown previously held various positions, including COO in charge of all transportation services. He will continue to serve as SVP and COO of the West Region on a temporary basis until an interim successor is appointed. Watco executives expect to select an interim replacement by Nov. 30, then launch a search for a permanent successor, who will be named in first-quarter 2011.
